How is Vinyasa Yoga Different From Other Forms? Vinyasa yoga, also called “hot yoga”, is a method of performing ashtanga yoga, using a rapid flowing series of poses, to build balance, strength and flexibility. The yoga student moves from one pose to another combining a free flowing motion while integrating different breaths with each movement, as if in a free flowing dance. Other types of yoga focus on the pose, but with Vinyasa yoga, the interval from pose to pose is also focused upon, considered as significant as the pose
This style of yoga is typically practiced daily, in a very warm room, (thus the name “hot yoga”), in order to keep the muscles relaxed and in form. One goal of Vinyasa is to produce heat in the body, in order to induce a cleansing sweat and to improve circulation. A second goal is a strong body and calm mind. Vinyasa yoga is a very demanding dynamic form of yoga, and is considered aerobic exercise.
Many people, when beginning Vinyasa yoga, find it a bit difficult, especially women, as it requires strong upper body muscles. However, once one has mastered the poses and the linked intervals, one realizes that their inner peace, or spirit, has intensified, along with their muscles.
